The revised national standard "Chinese Common Names of Pesticides" will be issued on December 31, 2025, and will take effect from January 1, 2027. This standard is a mandatory national standard concerning the regulation and use of pesticides. The revised standard strictly adheres to the principle of "one active ingredient, one name." The content of the standard is more aligned with the requirements, adding 236 new pesticide varieties and eliminating over 500 pesticide varieties that no longer meet current regulations. Corrections have been made to some chemical names and structural formulas. The revised standard features more precise terminology for pheromone pesticides, more standardized classification of microbial pesticides, and a more scientific format and ordering. Additionally, the international standardized organization (ISO) English common names are uniformly adopted for comparison, enhancing the consistency between China's pesticide standards and international standards. After the implementation of the new standards, the practice of misusing pesticide brand names and diluting generic names will be curbed, preventing instances of "same name but different drugs or different names but same drug." This reduces the risk of farmers purchasing or misusing pesticides and ensures the quality of agricultural products and ecological safety from the source. The introduction and implementation of the new standards will play a significant role in regulating the pesticide market, improving market conditions, ensuring medication safety and agricultural production safety, as well as promoting industry standardization and informatization development.
